Castillo de Gibralfaro
Overview:
- Castillo de Gibralfaro is one of the most prominent landmarks of the historic city of Malaga, due to its architectural design and its influential role in Spanish and Andalusian history.
- The castle is located on the top of Mount Al-Manara (Mount Gibralfaro), hence its name, in the north-east of the ancient city.
- The castle follows the system of Islamic architecture, as it was built in the tenth century AD by order of the Andalusian Caliph Abd al-Rahman III, over the ruins of the ancient Phoenician lighthouse.
- The castle is surrounded by huge green spaces interspersed with water fountains, and there are also a large number of vast old squares that were naturally used as a residence and gathering place during the Middle Ages, but now these squares are used for bullfighting shows.
- The castle has many watchtowers that were used in the past to protect the castle during wars.
- Next to the joyful green spaces around the castle, you can watch the war pieces that are spread in the castle garden and take souvenir photos next to it.
