Sursock Museum

Overview:

Sursock Palace or Sursock Museum, is a Lebanese archaeological palace located on the plateau of the Ashrafieh neighborhood in the city of Beirut, the Lebanese capital.

Historic overview:

It was built by "Nicolas Sursock" in 1910 AD, and its owner donated the palace after his death in 1952 AD to the Beirut municipality, on the condition that it would be transformed into a Museum of Modern Art as mentioned in his will, and one of the conditions of this will is that the mayor of Beirut be a supervisor of the museum and that its affairs are managed by an elite of personalities in Beirut.

Architectural Description:

This museum is located in the street known in Beirut as "Al-Sarasqa neighborhood", and the museum's management entrusted the renovation and expansion work to the architects (Michel Villmott, the French and Jacques Abu Khaled, the Lebanese).

The museum contains 5,000 pieces of art, including paintings, statues, sculptures, and icons dating back to the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
