Historical Description:
The Medieval Town, situated 80 km from Agadir, is one of the oldest Moroccan cities in the Souss region.
It dates back to the Phoenician period, when it was famous as an urban and commercial center.
It was adopted as a military base during the Almoravid and Almohad era, but it was destroyed during the rule of the Marinid state.
At the beginning of the sixteenth century, it had regained its economic boom, as it became the Saadian capital.
It reached the height of its renaissance thanks to the Sultan, "Muhammad Sheikh Al-Saadi," who contributed to the construction of a group of historical monuments that defined its architectural character; including restoration and support of the ramparts and construction of the Kasbah, the Great Mosque, the school and the Scrap Factory.
