Bab Al Rawah

Overview:

In Almohad Wall of the city, there are five gates: Bab al-Alu, Bab El Had, Bab Al Rawah, the gate parallel to the Royal Palace from the west and Bab Zaer to the south.

Bab Al Rawah is located downtown Rabat in the Almohad Wall, on the northwestern side of the Royal Palace.

Some researchers believe that its name is derived from the word "wind", and Bab Al Rawah is the largest gateway of the Almohad Wall of the city.

It has a height of 12 m, and this gate is the most varied gate in Almohad walls in motifs, including an inscription band that rotates in the middle filling of the gate, which includes a Qur’anic verse in Kufic script in large letters.

Bab Al Rawah was built in 1197 AD by the Almohad Caliph "Yaqoub Al Mansour", and Bab Al Rawah is one of the most luxurious and most decorated five gates surrounding the walls of Rabat.
