Australian art includes Aboriginal, Colonial, Impressionist, 20th Century, Contemporary and Modern art. The collection of Chinese works began in 1862, one year after the gallery's establishment, when Frederick Dalgety donated two Chinese paintings, and the Asian collection has grown since then, to include important works from across the continent.
