Overview:
The first nucleus of the regular police was formed in Qatar on 10/09/1949 AD. Work began in the first police station in December 1949, and it was called the Doha Police Department, and it was located in the middle of Souq Waqif. At that time, it is specialized in providing security and protection for citizens and maintaining order by conducting mobile patrols, carrying out the task of stationary guards on vital places in the capital, and regulating traffic, in addition to carrying out all police work, such as following up on criminals, investigating criminal and traffic cases, referring the accused to court, and deporting the persons required to be deported.
Law No. (5) of 1970 was issued defining the responsibilities of ministries and other government agencies in the country.
Since that time, the Ministry of the Interior has assumed its competence and tasks to provide reassurance and security and organize the police forces to ensure the maintenance of the security of the homeland and the preservation of the safety and security of citizens and residents, and take all necessary measures to prevent crimes and work to uncover what is happening from them, in addition to handling issues related to nationality, issuing travel documents, regulating entry and residence for foreigners in the country, and organizing prisons.
Since that time, the Ministry of Interior has made determined and continuous efforts through which it has been able to build capable and advanced security agencies that have proven their worth and ability to bear honesty, achieve the desired safety and protect the community.
The role of the Ministry of Interior and its affiliated departments in maintaining security and stability to achieve the requirements of development and comprehensive renaissance in the country is growing, keeping pace with the comprehensive renaissance witnessed by the State of Qatar under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh / Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country and His Highness the Father Emir Sheikh / Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Over the past few years, the Ministry of Interior has achieved many successes and achievements through development and modernization plans based on providing human and technical capabilities through the provision of psychological devices and equipment, and expanding the development of services provided to the public in accordance with effective security strategic plans that accommodate the requirements of the present and the future based on the spirit of cooperation and initiative, and activating the community partnership between police agencies and the community as individuals, bodies and institutions to achieve the concept of shared responsibility in providing more security and stability in society.
