Al Shaqab Equestrian Club

Overview:

- Al Shaqab Equestrian Club pays great attention to the Arabian horse. It also strives to achieve excellence in the equestrian field, which has gradually developed and is closely related to the purebred horses in the State of Qatar.

- Al Shaqab Equestrian Club seeks to set a set of foundations and controls in the field of equestrianism to ensure the preservation of the country's cultural heritage that was passed on by previous generations and to work on passing it on to future generations.

- Al Shaqab is a global equine leader passionately committed to preserving Qatar’s heritage by promoting the Arabian horse and setting the highest standards in horse welfare, breeding, equine education and research, while developing, integrating and optimizing utilization of assets and human capital towards making it a self-sustainable entity and engaging the community.

- Al Shaqab became a member of Qatar Foundation in 2004 under the patronage and leadership of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Shaqab, with the aim of achieving the best levels in the field of breeding and producing Arabian horses and selecting the most beautiful for display in international competitions in addition to providing innovative and competitive educational opportunities in all equestrian arts.

- Stemming from three core principles – Excellence, Education, and Heritage – Al Shaqab embarked in 2006 on implementing an expansion plan to achieve its strategic vision by upgrading horse riding and production skills by building a state-of-the-art equestrian center.

- Shortly afterwards, it managed to win international championships in horse beauty and endurance competitions with a group of distinguished Arabian horses. Today, Al Shaqab represents one of the leading breeding facilities in the world, and Al Shaqab remains the only place that produced three world champions, all of whom were born in Qatar. Al Shaqab remained for many years the desired destination for visitors to the city of Doha, and in response to this interest, the new building will include a visitor center and a museum to display the heritage of Arabian horses.

- Al Shaqab's new and exceptional facilities cover an area of 980,000 square metres, and was specifically designed to honor the distinguished classic beauty as well as the treasured and versatile skills of the Arabian breed.

- Situated in a stunning horseshoe shaped design, Al Shaqab has many distinctive architectural elements. A central water feature, significant green areas and the landmark main arena, create a welcoming environment for both human and equine visitors.
