Lakemba Mosque
Overview:
The Lakemba Mosque (also known as: Ali Bin Abi Talib Mosque) is the largest mosque in Australia and is the second mosque to be established in Sydney.
It is located in the suburb of Lakemba, New South Wales, southwest of Sydney. The mosque is owned and managed by the Lebanese Islamic Society, and the number of worshipers in it during the holidays exceeds 30,000.
The Lebanese Islamic Society began building the mosque in 1972, to be completed in 1977, half of the money came from the Middle East and the largest donation was made by Saudi Arabia.
The mosque offers a number of religious lessons, such as: the biography of the Prophet, jurisprudence and doctrine.
The mosque also provides a platform for a number of local sheikhs to speak and teach.
