Australian Museum

Overview:

- The Australian Museum in Sydney is the oldest museum in Australia with an outstanding international reputation in the fields of natural history and anthropology, and is considered an encyclopedia of cultural and natural history.

- It was built according to the European model and it includes a variety of fossilized vertebrates and animal invertebrates.

- The scientific position of the museum was established under the leadership of Gerard Crave, and it was initially called the Colonial Museum or the Sydney Museum, and its name was changed in 1836 AD to be called the Australian Museum.

- The first location of the museum site was in 1827 AD in a room in the head of the colonies' office, and it continued in this place for 30 years to acquire the name of the Colonial Museum.

- It was moved to its current location on William Street in 1849 AD to be an elegant sandstone building, and it was opened to the public in 1857 AD in front of Hyde Park.

- A lot of additions have been made to the museum over the years to narrate the unique Australian experience with the indigenous people and European colonialism, where there was a much better coexistence than what happened in other colonies such as America and India.

- Among the most famous hotels near the Australian Museum are The Westin Sydney Hotel, The Langham Sydney Hotel, and the Four Seasons Hotel.
