Al Madrasa Al Sharqiya, or Eastern School
Overview:
The Eastern School for Girls was established between 1938-1939, whose building was a home for the "Haji Faras" family, in the Sharq area of Kuwait City. It is bordered on the northwest by the Modern Eastern School, on the north by Arabian Gulf Street, on the east by Nahed Mosque, and on the south by Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street and on the west by the cemetery of Hilal Al-Mutairi.
The Department of Education had chosen this building when it decided to establish an elementary school for boys in this area. When the school's classrooms were unable to accommodate the increasing number of students, the department established a new school for boys and converted the building into an elementary school for girls.
The affiliation of the “The Eastern School for Girls” building was transferred from the Ministry of Education to the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, which began the restoration and maintenance work of the building in 2001. The building was officially opened within the celebrations of the "Al-Qurain Cultural Festival" in January 2003.
The architectural design of the building is characterized by its affecting by its environment, and it clearly expresses the local architectural character that characterized the contemporary period of the establishment of the school. The area of the building, which tends to be simple, is approximately 990.5 square meters.
