Bin Bahr Mosque - Al Ibrahim Mosque

Overview:

The oldest mosques in Kuwait at all, and it was originally a small mosque near the sea coast attached to “Kut Bin Urayer” near the Bahita Hill, the center of the old city of Kuwait later, which is its central neighborhood. When the founding families settled and built their homes on both sides of Kut, towards the east and the east, the great-grandfather of the family, Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim, chose a location adjacent to the mosque from the east. He reconstructed and expanded it until it became the largest mosque in Kuwait until its imamate reached members of the Al-Bahr family. The custom in Kuwait at that time was to call the mosque by the name of its Imam, which is a common practice. Even half of Kuwait’s mosques bear the names of their Imam instead of the names of those who built them, who seek reward from Allah and not fame, such as the Bin Khamis Mosque, which was founded by Muhammad Al-Jalahma, the Sadiq Mosque, which was built by Abdullah Al-Abdullah Al-Qana’i, Al-Sharhan Mosque, which was built by Abdullah Al-Marzouq, the Saeed Mosque which was built by Abbas Al-Haroun, and the Sarhan Mosque, which was established by Yassin al-Qina’i and al-Fares Mosque which was built by Areman al-Azmi, and there are many others.

The Bin Bahr Mosque is located in the Mubarakiya area of Kuwait. The mosque was built in 1695 and is also called Al Ibrahim Mosque.

The mosque was initially built of mud and mud bricks, and when the mosque began to fall off some of its sides, it was rebuilt by “Abdullah bin Ali bin Saeed bin Bahr” in the year 1316 AH.

It was reconstructed at the expense of «Abdul Rahman bin Muhammad al-Bahr» in 1402 AH, and the mosque is still present in Kuwait until now.

The total area of the mosque's plot of land is about 2500 square meters, where the mosque can accommodate about two thousand and five hundred worshipers.

The mosque is built in the Fatimid style in its facades, minaret, dome, and interior designs.
