Cave of Cervantes

Overview:

A cave in the heart of the Algerian capital was associated with the name of the Spanish writer Miguel Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, because he took refuge in it when he escaped from captivity.

On his return to his original homeland, he wrote in 1605 AD the first part of his masterpiece, “The Noble Genius: Don Quixote de la Mancha”, and the second part in 1615 AD entitled “The Knight Genius: Don Quixote de la Mancha”.

Cervantes’s Cave is located at the bottom of a mountain in the municipality of Belouizdad in the Algerian capital. It overlooks the port of the capital. It is 7 meters long and 2 meters wide, and is considered a cultural landmark. It is not far from two national cultural institutions, the National Library and the National Museum.

The cave includes rooms and ancient sculptures formed by nature, as well as a small garden decorated with some trees and stairs leading to the forest.
