Overview:
Khawr Al Udayd: Al Ud is the place where sea waters are not cut off, and the word has several meanings in Arabic, and Khawr Al Udayd contains two lakes, north and south, and their water does not cut in tide or ebb.
Khawr Al Udayd is located in the southeast of Qatar, and it is one of the oldest areas, and it was inhabited in the first by the tribes of Bani Hammad and Al-Abadela. After a dispute between the two tribes over a well, the two tribes left to the eastern coast of the Arabian Gulf, and a number of tribes resided there after them, the last of them Al Qubaysat.
Khawr Al Udayd Reserve is considered one of the nature reserves based on Resolution No. (1) of 2007, and it is 80 kilometres away from the city of Doha towards the southeast, and it is usually referred to as the Inland Sea, and it is located in the southernmost point of Qatar.
Its area is about 1833 square kilometres. The Khawr Al Udayd area is considered one of the most important areas where mammals abound. It is also considered an exceptional natural environment of particular importance and attraction in Qatar.
Where there are high sand dunes, and represent a unique combination of geological topography and environmental factors, which created natural environments that support unique types of animals and plants, and led to the emergence of a natural landscape and an ecosystem exclusively for Qatar, which deserves the highest levels of protection for the natural environment.
Khawr Al Udayd contains a beach that is considered one of the cleanest beaches in the Arabian Gulf, supervised by the Qatari Ministry of Environment, and the area also contains a reserve for producing (Houbara) birds. Khawr Al Udayd can be reached via Sealine Beach by taking the overland route for 30 km.
