Bayt Al Sinnari (Al Sinnari House)

Historic overview:

Ibrahim Katkhda Al-Sinnari established this house in 1209 AH - 1794 AD and was called Al-Sinnari in reference to the city of Sinnar. He was from Cairo wealthy people, from Dongola, Sudan. He worked as a doorman in Mansoura, then resided in Upper Egypt and contacted Prince Murad Bey, until he became one of the notables of Cairo and died in the year 1216 AH - 1801 AD.

Architectural description:

The house consists of two floors, on the ground floor, when entering from the main gate, we find the entrance space "al-Majaz", which achieves privacy in the house, then we go to the main courtyard of the house through a long corridor that has window openings directed to the north, so it works to draw air from the courtyard and reduce the temperature inside the house.

The Women's Hall: It is the hall designated for women, and there is more than a small space in it that has windows with bays (mashrabiya) overlooking the inner and outer courtyard, thus achieving the required privacy for women. The mashrabiya helps to see from the inside and prevents those outside from seeing the people in the hall, as well as softens the air and reduces its temperature, due to the material used, which is wood, as well as its shapes that help the movement of air in it.
