Shukri al-Quwatli

Overview:

• Shukri Mahmoud al-Quwatli (October 21, 1891 - June 30, 1967) was an Arab leader and Syrian president twice, from 1943 - 1949, and from 1955 - 1958.

• Shukri al-Quwatli is considered one of the most prominent advocates of Arab unity in the modern era, one of the heroes of liberation in the Arab world, and leaders of the resistance movement against colonialism.

• Shukri al-Quwatli remained a symbol of resistance and steadfastness against the colonizer, and all attempts of threats and extortion did not work with him, and the prison did not weaken his resolve, and the shadows of the gallows that appeared before his eyes three times in his life full of struggle did not intimidate him, until his great dream was fulfilled, and Syria gained its independence. Al-Quwatli became the first national leader to assume the presidency of the Syrian Republic.
