About the place

October war battle

Overview:

• It happened in the Golan Heights between Syria and Israel on October 6, 1973, coinciding with the attack agreed upon between Syria and Egypt.

• The "Republics of Egypt and Syria" had agreed to wage a war of liberation against Israel, which has occupied the Golan Heights and the Sinai Peninsula since the 1967 war.

• The attack took place on the afternoon of Saturday, October 6, 1973, which coincides with the Jewish Feast of Atonement.

• At 13:58 on October 6, the Syrian warplanes bombed the Israeli army positions in the Golan. About 100 Syrian fighter planes participated in the attack.

It also opened a thousand of its cannon fires for an hour and a half. The units and sectors of the Syrian army proceeded through the Golan, breaching the Alon defensive line, reaching the outskirts of Lake Tiberias, inflicting heavy losses on the Israeli forces.

• There were Moroccan units in the Golan before the war, known as Tajridah al Maghribiyah, and Iraqi, Jordanian and Saudi units arrived as soon as the war broke out.

• The Israeli military leadership was aware of the strength of the Syrian front and the ability of the Syrian army and the strength of the Syrian armor, so it focused and gave priority in the war to the Golan front because of its proximity and the seriousness of the situation in the Golan, as the Syrian forces were able to penetrate the lines of the Israeli forces and reach the depth of the Golan on the second day of the war.
