Overview:
• It is an old mosque located outside the walls of the old city of Damascus on the road between Bab Musalla roundabout square and Muhammad Al-Ashmar Square in the Al-Midan neighborhood, Sikka Road in Damascus, and it is currently known as Zawiyat Al-Rifai.
• Flous built it in the year 440 AH corresponding to 1048 AD, and it contains his grave.
• The Flous Mosque is the oldest Fatimid mosque in Damascus. It is the only old mosque remaining from the Fatimid period in Damascus, which remained for 106 years, i.e. “from 359 AH to 468 AH, corresponding to 969 AD to 1075 AD.” The Fatimid era did not leave any traces of construction in Damascus, the Levant, except for a small portion.
• A new marble plaque has been placed over the mosque's door after it was completely renovated with marble from the outside and the inside, which reads: “Al-Fatihah, with the help of God Almighty, this corner was restored on the soul of the late Muhammad Khair bin Abdul-Fattah Sahloul, 1422 AH - 2001 AD.”
Architectural description:
• The most important feature of this mosque is the artistic output that remains from the Fatimid era in Damascus, represented in the decoration of its mihrab.
• The Haram of the mosque is a rectangular room, and its ceiling is supported by two large arches that support the circular wooden columns that carry the ceiling of the prayer room, as is the case with most of the old Arab houses.
• The minaret is a modern square concrete trunk, a meter high, erected on the southwestern side of the roof of the haram of the prayer hall, topped by a small concrete pyramid also, and at the top of the pyramid are three apples and a closed crescent.
