• Al-Qalai Mosque was in the past a beautiful Mamluk mosque dating back to the sixteenth century, but all that remains of it today is its beautiful minaret, which stands as a testament to the glories of this mosque.
Historic overview:
At that time, it was one of the greatest mosques in Damascus, but its conditions have changed. Today, it is entered through its renovated and modern eastern gate, which was renovated with an archaeological Islamic character at the end of the twentieth century.
• At the entrance to the door there is an introductory plaque that reads the noble verse: (The Mosques of Allah shall be maintained only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day).
• A modern mosque was added to the mosque later, and it was renewed in 1997 AD.
Architectural description:
• The Haram of the prayer hall is rectangular in shape, and the Qibliya wall occupies the largest side of the Haram. It was renovated in the Ottoman era and then in the modern era. The roof has a strange shape as it has an arched wooden hump in the roof of the haram of the prayer hall which gives it a special feature is that it is the only mosque among the mosques of "Damascus" built in the form of a large arch with the shape of a semi-circle and without iron pillars, or ground stone pillars that carry the roof from the grounds of the haram.
