Bab el Saghir Cemetery

Overview:

• Al-Bab Al-Saghir cemetery, and it is known among the people as the cemetery of Bab el-Saghir, is one of the most famous and largest cemeteries in the Islamic city of Damascus, and families often inherit the graves in it and the dead are buried there to this day.

• Al-Bab Al-Saghir cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries, dating back to the early years of the advent of Islam,” says researcher and archeology professor Iyad Younes, adding that it was “founded in the year 13 AH, 670 AD, and it is one of the most famous and largest cemeteries in Damascus.”

• The cemetery contains several graves and shrines, including:

- The shrine of Amina bint Al-Hussein, may God be pleased with him

- The shrine of Lady Umm Kulthum bint Ali bin Abi Talib, may God be pleased with them both.

- The shrine of Lady Fatima bint Al-Hussein, may God be pleased with him

- The shrine of Lady Maymoona bint Al-Hassan, may God be pleased with him

- The shrine of the venerable Lady Umm Salama, the mother of the believers, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace.

- The muezzin of the Messenger Bilal bin Rabah al-Habashi, may God be pleased with him

- Abdullah bin Maktoum, may God be pleased with him.

- Hafsa bint Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with them both.

- Umm Habiba bint Abi Sufyan, may God be pleased with her.

- Al-Waleed Ibn Abd al-Malik.

- Al Zahabi.

- Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya.

- The poet Nizar Qabbani.
