Overview:

• The Secondary School of the Martyr "Abdul Hamid Al-Zahrawi", which has been rehabilitated and will be inaugurated soon, is one of the oldest secondary schools in the "Homs" governorate.

• Its founding dates back to 1919 AD, and it was called the "First Processing - Al Taghez Al Oula" school, where teachers were being prepared for middle school education at that time.

• It was named after the martyr "Abdul Hamid Al-Zahrawi" in 1958, and it is considered one of the typical high schools in the governorate in terms of construction, teaching and administrative staff.

• The school currently has about eight hundred students, and the success rates are high in the secondary certificate, at an average of eighty-five percent of applicants each year. There is continuous follow-up by the secondary administration for students, by communicating with their parents and informing them directly about their children's performance and level of achievement.

• prominent figures of thought that Syria is proud of studied at "Al-Zahrawi" High School, including the late writer "Abdul Ma'in Al-Mallouhi", the writer "Rafik Al-Fakhoury" and Dr. "Shaker Al-Faham", the grammarian "Mohieddin Darwish", the film critic "Nader Al-Atassi", and the poet "Abdul Al-Basit Al-Sufi, Dr. Fawaz Al-Akhras, the martyr Mohsen Tarkawi, the former Minister of Defense General Mustafa Tlas, the late artist Nabil Khuzam, and a large number of the province's celebrities and a number of its brilliant doctors and engineers.

Architectural Description:

• The building of the school is one of the historical and archaeological buildings with its unique architecture and wonderful design in proportion to the educational process. It is built of basalt stone surrounded by a garden on three sides.

• The building consists of three floors and includes 34 rooms of administrators, teachers and laboratories, and its halls are wide and with high ceilings.

• The doors are designed in a healthy way that helps in the entry of light and air well, and its walls give coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter, in addition to the presence of typical laboratories, a library full of old and new books, numbering about 1,600 books, and a large school theater.

• It has a museum that contains scientific, physical and chemical materials, maps, anatomy materials and other materials that were used in the past as teaching aids, and the mathematical achievements of the school. The museum also contains a folder about the history of the school and records with the names and photos of students who have studied at the school since its foundation until today.

• The school also includes two basketball courts and two student rest areas divided into two wings separated by corridors.

• In the summer of 2008, the secondary school was renovated from the inside, and a central heating system was installed, painted, and paved with granite in the classrooms with basalt stone in the corridors, in addition to covering the stairs, placing complete new furniture, paving the courtyards, restoring the bathrooms, and placing new lighting.
