Al Turkman Gate
Bab Al Turkman
Overview:
• Bab Al-Turkman: It is located in the northwestern corner of the castle, where the castle meets the city wall. It is located to the south of Bab al Masdod. Its location is in the middle of Bab Al-Turkman Street as it heads towards the west.
• Some traces of it are still visible with pieces of polished stones paved under the walls of one of the neighboring houses.
• It is believed that its name dates back to the eleventh century when some Turkmen tribes inhabited the city in that region, after the Ottomans entered the city.
• It is the gate that leads to the orchards and is linked with the road leading to Damascus, the Levant, then with the road to Tripoli, the castle and the coastal cities. It is the military entrance that adjoins the castle. This gate was removed when the road leading to the city was expanded in 1925 AD.
