Battle of Hazir (Qinnasrin)
Overview:
The Battle of Hazir (Qinnasrin) is one of the most famous battles in Islamic history, and the battle took place between the Muslim army and the Byzantine army, and it was in the year 637 AD, and the Muslims were under the leadership of Khalid bin Al-Walid, and the events of the battle took place in a town known as Qinnasrin.
The Muslims marched to the city of Qinnasrin and reached Al-Hazir area, which is only about three miles away from the Qinnasrin area. The Byzantines launched the first attack on the Muslims, then the fighting intensified between them until the Muslims won a great victory.
The location of the battle:
An archaeological site in the southern countryside of Aleppo, about (40 km) away from the city of Aleppo.
Its old name: Qan al-Nusour, which means in Aramaic the House of Eagles, its name fits the nature of the area which is full of caves and these caves are suitable for the living of large birds, including eagles.
Qinnasrin was a bustling city but the days pass and nothing remains of Qinnasrin but ruins, and a large village was established above it which is the village of Al-Eis.
