Battle of Siffin

The reason for the battle: The Battle of Siffin took place between the armies of Ali and Muawiyah - may God bless them - in the year 37 AH after Muawiyah's army demanded that Ali surrender the killers of Othman - may God bless him -.

The location of the battle: Its location today is on the right bank of the Euphrates River, to the southeast of Bals (currently Maskanah) opposite Jabaar Castle (Qalaat Jabaar), near the city of Raqqa at Lake Assad.

Nearby there are small hills containing the graves of the dead of Siffin, and they are in order of places from west to east as follows: Bals - Siffin - Jabaar - Daman - Raqqa.

Siffeen is an Aramaic word meaning land of stones. In the language: Safat: a smooth rock, and the plural is Safa.
