Marmaris Kalesi
Overview:
Marmaris Kalesi is a historical castle in the Turkish city of Marmaris. It was built by the Greeks in 1044 BC then it was destroyed. Suleiman the Magnificent gave an order to rebuild it in 1522 and used it as a military base.
Today the Castle is home to many art exhibits and artifacts such as accessories, coins, textile, rugs, brass, cookware, weapons and more.
During the world war, some parts of the castle were destroyed and the Turkish government carried out renovations for the second time during the years from 1980-1990. After the renovations the castle attracted many tourists. The castle envelopes a medium-size yard and houses a lot of ancient artifacts, bottles and pottery. There are some old graves and some Greek artifacts in the middle of a botanic garden.
