Beni Hammad Fort

Overview:

Beni Hammad Fort is located in Al-Maadid, northeast of M’Sila Province, 36 km away. It was the first capital (before Bejaia) of the Hammadid dynasty, which reached its climax in the eleventh century. These ruins are located at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level and are surrounded by the Hudna Mountains, which form a suitable background for the fort.

Historical overview:

The fort of Bani Hammad in Al-Maadid belonging to M'sila province is one of the symbols of the Islamic State in Algeria and is considered an extension of the state of Hammad bin Belkin, who tried to refine and confirm the Islamic identity. Despite the importance of this great historical and Islamic edifice, the fort is on its way to disappearing. The completion and construction of Bani Hammad Fort dates back to the year 398 AH / 399 AH / 1007 and 1008 AD by Hammad bin Belkin, who chose a fortified place for his castle strategically at the top of Mount Tagrest at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level in order to conduct military surveillance of the neighbouring places, and the period of construction of this great Islamic edifice was lasted for 30 years.

It was classified by "UNESCO" within the precious human heritage.
