Sidi Belahcène Mosque
Mosquée Sidi Belahcène
Overview:
• This mosque, which is still standing, witnesses on the splendour and prosperity of mosque architecture in Tlemcen, despite its small size and proximity to the Great Mosque, but it draws the visitor's attention to it because it is a rare masterpiece, which was turned into a museum in Tlemcen and then into a school in the colonial period.
Historic overview:
• It was built by Sultan Abu Said Othman, Caliph and son of Yaghmurasen in the year 696 AH in honor of the memory of Prince “Abi Amer Ibrahim,” noting that it bears the name of the guardian, “Abi Al-Hassan bin Ykhlef Al-Tansi,” a famous scholar in Tlemcen. This mosque was built according to the inscriptions affixed to the western wall of the mosque, written on a page of green marble in elegant Andalusian script, as a memorial to Prince Abi Amer Ibrahim bin Abi Yahya Yaghmurasen bin Zyan, who recommended building this mosque before his death and spent some of his real estate money on it.
