Battle of Ridaniya
Overview:
The Battle of Ridaniya took place on the 29th of Dhu al-Hijjah 922 AH, January 22, 1517 AD, between Toman Bay and the Ottoman Sultan Selim I, which ended with the defeat of Tuman Bay and his execution at Bab Zuweila, and the end of Mamluk rule and the beginning of Ottoman control over Egypt.
Battle location:
The battle took place in the village of Ridaniya, located in Abbassia, on the road between Birkat al-Hajj and Cairo. Abbassia area is one of the most famous neighborhoods in Cairo, which is Ridaniya desert, and Khedive Abbas was the first to establish buildings in the Ridaniya desert, including the psychiatric hospital.
Abbassia area was the area of the rich and the wealthy people before it became a popular area after it was abandoned by the wealthy and moved to other places.
Al-Ridaniya was named after Raydan Al-Saqili, who is a member of the retinue of Al-Hakim Al-Obeidi Al-Aziz, and he was the first to reform and cultivate its desert.
