Ténès Lighthouse

Overview:

The lighthouse of Ténès in Chlef Province, which is considered a standing historical landmark, illuminates the path of marine ships despite its 151 years old, and exposure to two earthquakes that struck the region in 1954 AD and 1980 AD.

The construction of this lighthouse dates back to the year 1861 AD in a rocky site on the waterfront of "Sidi Marawan", located 15 km east of the coastal city Ténès, to be the first lighthouse built on the Algerian coast. With a rare architecture, Ténès lighthouse was built with carved stones to guide merchant ships and others to the sailing path in which they are located and to avoid approaching this area, which is characterized by rocky marine and land terrain.
