Casbah includes a group of mosques built by the Ottomans five centuries ago, and among the oldest of these mosques is the Ketchaoua Mosque, which was built in 1612 AD, and there are also in the ancient neighborhood, the Great Mosque, the Sultan Mosque, and Djemaa El Djedid. Casbah has the famous mausoleum “Sidi Abd al-Rahman al-Tha'alibi,” which is considered a great shrine in this ancient neighborhood.

The old neighborhood includes a number of Ottoman palaces of great beauty and design. Among these palaces are "Ahmed Bey Palace", which was converted into the headquarter of the Algerian National Theatre, in addition to "Hamra Palace", which was turned into a house of culture.
