Overview
The National Library of Tunisia is a Tunisian governmental institution, under the Ministry of Culture. It undertakes the preservation of Tunisia's national intellectual production.
Historical overview:
The National Library was established on March 8, 1885 during the reign of Ali Pasha, and the library of the French Consul in Tunisia, Charles Tissot, was added to it, but its actual launch was in 1910
At first it was called the French Library, then it became called the Popular Library. After the country's independence in 1956 AD, it became the National Library, then finally the National Library.
