Battle of the Camel

About the place

Battle of the Camel

overview:

The battle took place in Basra in the year (36 AH) between the forces of the Commander of the Faithful Ali bin Abi Talib and the army led by the two companions Talhah ibn Ubayd-Allahand Zubayr ibn al-Awam, in addition to the mother of the believers Aisha - may God bless them all - who was said that she had gone with the city’s army in an iron hedge on a camel, and the battle was called the camel in relation to that camel.

The location of the Battle:

•The battle took place in the old city of Basra, which was destroyed for centuries after the battle, and its people abandoned it to areas in Iraq, Barr Fares, Kuwait and Zubarah in the north of Qatar.

•The location of the city of Basra today is the city of Al-Zubayr. It contains Ali bin Abi Talib mosque, Souk Al-Mirbid- which is the complex of poets and writers in the Umayyad Caliphate , such as Souk Okaz in the pre-Islamic era- and the graves of those killed in the Battle of the Camel, and the tomb of Al-Zubayr, for which the city was named after him.

• Modern Basra has been populated after that, and it is about 15 km away from Old Basra to the east.

• The site of the Battle of the Camel is (Diem Khuzam) in the center of the city of Al-Zubayr.
