About the place

Lenin Peak

Overview:

Lenin Peak is located in the Osh region, rises 7,134 meters above sea level in the Pamir mountain areas, on the border between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan.

It was called the Kaufman Mountains in 1871 AD, and in 1982 AD its name was changed to the peak of the Lenin Mountains, after the first president of the Soviet Union at that time, Vladimir Lenin.

Tajikistan changed its name and became called Ibn Sina Summit in 2006 AD, the great scientist who was famous for medicine and philosophy and was a pioneer in both fields. However, this name was not officially used in Kyrgyzstan, and in 2017 the Kyrgyz President demanded to change the name of this peak to the "Manas" summit after one of the historical heroes in that country.
