Overview:
• The Castle of Good Hope - in Dutch: Kasteel de Goede Hoop - in Afrikaans: Kasteel van Goeie Hoop, known locally as “The Castle” or “Cape Town Castle”.
• The castle is located in the southwestern part of South Africa, and its location which is separating the Indian and Atlantic Oceans made it a mythical and alluring place for explorers.
Historic overview:
• It is the oldest building in South Africa, and it contains a museum telling the military history of the place and other works of art, and it is 238 meters high.
• It was discovered for the first time by the legendary traveller "Vasco de Gama" in the fifteenth century.
• It was built in the seventeenth century in Cape Town, it was originally located on the coast of Table Bay. After land reclamation, the fort is now within the grounds.
• In 1936, the castle was declared a historic monument (it is now a regional heritage site), and following restorations in the 1980s, it became considered the best-preserved example for the fortress of a Dutch East India Company.
