Alexandria National Museum

Overview:

Alexandria National Museum is located in the center of Alexandria, and it is one of the unique architectural masterpieces.

The museum building was originally a palace of Asaad Basili Pasha, who built this palace in the Italian architectural style, and he remained in it until 1954 AD, then it was bought by the US Consulate.

It was purchased by the Supreme Council of Antiquities in 1996, then it was restored and opened as a museum in September 2003.

Alexandria National Museum displays on three floors a distinguished collection of artifacts. It includes more than 1,800 artifacts covering most of the historical stages of Egyptian civilization, from the Old Kingdom to the modern times.

The museum also is distinguished by displaying a unique collection of sunken antiquities that were found during excavations conducted in Abu Qir Bay in Alexandria.
