Sultan Ahmet III Sabil

Overview:

It is a reservoir and water supply built by the Ottoman Sultan Ahmed III, and it is one of the old customs of princes and sultans for sympathy for the poor. In Islamic countries, the sabils took their unique character, as princes were competing to do good and build charitable facilities and buildings.

Historic overview:

It was established by Sultan Ahmed III in the eighteenth-century AD (1141 AH = 1729 AD), and it was built on the proposal of the Grand Vizier Damat Ibrahim Pasha (Al-Mushgharli), Sultan Ahmed III also wrote the two verses of poetry himself which were written on the Sabil, and there are verses found on it are poems by famous poets at that time, like the poet Nadim and Shaker Rahmi.

Architectural description:

It is a square-shaped building with a water supply in each corner, and in its center there is an octagonal-shaped water tank surrounded by a corridor, and in the middle of each facade there is a fountain crowned with a pointed arch. On the back side, there are two gates that allow access to the sabil.
