Situated in the western part of London, Oxford Street is the most famous street in London and Europe.

History

The road was originally part of the Roman Road. During the 12th century and the 17th century, Oxford road was known as Tyburn and Oxbridge. It was given the name Oxford in 1729. It’s mentionable that a new pedestrian crossing was added in 2009 to make it more convenient for people to shop there.

Architecture

London Circus, opened in 2009, is located in the center of Oxford Street. It’s the only circus in central London. Oxford Street runs around 2 kilometers. It houses more than 300 stores, selling trendy clothes like Marks and Spenser, John Lewis, Silverage, House of Frazer, Gap, H&M and many more. It’s a very crowded street with over half a million visitors every day. It set sale records of 5 billion pounds.
