Covent Garden Market
Overview
Located on the eastern fringes of the West End in the heart of London, it’s bordered by High Holborn Street from the north, Kingsway from the east, Strand and Charing Cross Road from the west.
History
Starting in 1835, Covent Market got the approval to be held in Richmond and King’s Street in London. In 1958, the market housed nine different trades. It was expanded into four levels and it offers a parking lot and a space for the traditional market in the main floor.
In 1998, a new market was built. The opening was in 1999 and it was attended by thousands of people.
Architecture
Three markets were built in Covent Garden during the 19th century. They sold traditional goods, home supplies clothes and paintings.
The “Apple Market” is located to the west of Covent Garden and specializes in traditional British goods jewelry and leather products.
“East Colonnade” sells daily goods such as home supplies, traditional soap, kids’ clothes and antiques.
“Jubilee Market” is one of the best shopping centers in London offering different products throughout the week.
