Refai House:

Overview:

"Al Refai House" is a true masterpiece of art in the field of ancient architecture, as it reflects the wealth and luxury of Farasan Island in the boom days of pearl trade, and is located in Jazan village in the southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The house is 7 meters height, and its walls were covered from outside by wonderful plaster ornaments and sunk decorative arches. The approach of engraving and ornamentation were taken from India and Yemen.

Historic Overview:

One of the pearl merchants called Ahmed Munawar Al Refai, who is one of the old merchants, built this house in 1341 AH, in the days when the sale and purchase of pearls flourished in the Arabian Peninsula. That house shows how the Jazan merchants were working in buying and selling pearls across the sea.

It is worth noting that the merchant "Ahmed Munawar Al Refai" has been influenced by the Indian ancient civilization, which is characterized by the beauty of its designs, as he has made many trips to India in order to trade in pearls designed by Farasan Island. As a result, he brought two architects from India to build "Al Refai House", and its design that we see is one of the most beautiful ancient civilized designs.
