Ottoman Castle
Overview:
"Ottoman Castle" is one of the ancient buildings and symbols in "Farasan Island", dating back to the Ottoman era that passed through the island.
It is located in north of Farasan - between Farasan and the village of M'sila - on a hill that gives it a strategic location as it overlooks the entire town of Farasan.
It is built of stones and plaster whose materials are abundant in "Farasan Island" and its roof is made from palm groves placed on columns of railway bars.
Historical Background:
In the twentieth century (the Ottoman period), the Ottoman castle was used as a military base.
It is the oldest castle in the Farasan Islands. It was built in 1250 AH / 1832 AD. At the beginning of its establishment, it witnessed many skirmishes between the local population and the Ottoman forces during the Arab revolution. The People of Farasan resisted the Ottoman rule.
At that time, a battle occurred between the People of Farasan and the Ottoman rule. The battle ended with handing over of the island to the Ottoman Empire until the end of its rule after the reconciliation and mediation made with the people of Farasan, who raised the white flags.
