Sannai-Maruyama Special Historical Site (三内丸山遺跡)
Overview:
• The "Sannai-Maruyama Ruins" in southwest Aomori City are the largest ruins of a Jōmon village from about 10500-300 BC in Japan, estimated to date from 4,000 to 50,000 years ago.
• As the excavations progressed, it became clear that the ruins were from a large village that existed more than 1,500 years ago.
• Nowadays most of the excavated materials have been reburied for preservation, but a few excavation sites display artifacts, giving you a sense of antiquity.
