Overview:

• The (Romerberg Square) is the busiest and most beautiful market place in Frankfurt for most tourists.

• This square is the first stop that you meet on your way before heading into the Old Town.

• Römerberg Square is just a few steps away from St. Paul's Church.

Historic overview:

• The history of this place dates back to the twelfth century, and this place was the center of the city in the Middle Ages, and it has always been a center of trade. Art dealers have always visited it to attend exhibitions that were held there centuries ago, such as the "Frankfurt Book Fair" which is still held today although it was moved some time ago from this square to another area with more modern facilities.

• In the middle of the "Römerberg Square" is the Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen (Fountain of Justice), which was once the favorite place for the people of Frankfurt to celebrate the coronation of the Caesars. Today, the entire municipality building is called (Romer Building), and the municipality headquarters has been located in it since 1405 AD, and it is in the middle of the three buildings whose facades are designed in the form of stairs.

• In the Römer building there is the Kaiser's Hall. In the past, the Emperor's Hall was a royal place suitable for the coronation of German emperors and countless city officials. Today, its walls are lined with pictures from the nineteenth century of about 52 German emperors, starting with (Charlemagne), who was crowned in the year 800, and ending with (Frantz II), who abdicated the throne in 1806 AD, and it has been completely rebuilt in a modern style.

• The road from the square all the way to the cathedral is lined with buildings built in the old traditional style, and these buildings bear sonorous names such as "The Great Angel", "The Golden Griffin" or "The Black Star".

• The square is full of activities, monuments, museums and old churches that were used in violent trials and death sentences.
