Sonnenallee (“Sun Avenue”)

About the place

Sonnenallee (“Sun Avenue”)

Overview:

• The Sonnenallee Street in the Neukölln district of Berlin was known to many as the "Arab Street".

• Starting from Hermannplatz Square and extending for a distance of about two kilometers, there are almost exclusively Arabic restaurants and cafes on the street, such as Azzam, Al-Safa, Al-Dimashqi and Fooraj Al-Madina restaurants. This is in addition to Arab supermarkets, telephones, hairdressers and barbers, fashion stores and halal meat butchers. As for sweets and fresh baklava, you can find them in Al-Jazeera Sweets, Al-Manar, Umm Kulthum and more recently the distinctive Damascus sweets, in addition to cakes and tarts for small and large occasions.

• If you want to go to the Middle East from the heart of Berlin, head to "Arab Street Berlin - Sonnenallee Neukolln Berlin" and you will not feel alienated, as there is the largest Arab gathering in this street that extends for several kilometers.

• It is considered one of the most densely populated commercial and shopping areas, and is characterized by its low prices compared to the prices of other markets in Berlin.

• The street has recently turned into a tourist destination by Germans residing in other cities as well as many people coming from various European countries to get to know the Arab traditions in this street.
