• Mirabell Palace in Salzburg is one of the most beautiful tourist places in Austria.

• The palace is located in the Mirabellplatz area in Salzburg, Austria.

Historic overview:

• The palace was built in 1606 AD, by order of the Archbishop of the city, "Dietrich Reitenau", due to his illness that made him want to escape from the congestion of cities to a quiet place where he can live in peace.

• "Mirabell Palace" is known by many names; Among them is the "Marble Palace" because most of the materials which was used from both outside and inside are marble.

• The gardens were designed in 1690 AD according to the plans of "Johann Bernard Fischer von Erlak", and they were completely reorganized in the year 1730 AD.

• The Pegasus Fountain was built in 1913.

• The doors of the Mirabell Gardens were opened to the people by Emperor Franz Joseph in 1854 AD.

Architectural description:

• Mirabell Palace is a historical part of Salzburg. It is distinguished by its engineering construction that blends both Italian and French style.

• It is not characterized by Baroque architecture, but rather classical architecture, due to the fact that the palace was affected by a massive fire at the end of the nineteenth century, and it was redesigned again, but in the classic character prevailing in that period.

• One of the most beautiful sections of the palace, is the staircase that uniquely distinguishes it. It is linking simplicity and an artistic touch, which appears in its statues coordinated on it, in a perfect, neat, beautiful and splendid shape; The most famous of them is the staircase angel statue.

• The Mirabell Gardens are characterized by their beauty, the splendour of their engineering design, and their picturesque nature, which made them one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe.

• The palace contains some statues, which reflect masterpieces of Baroque art.

• It includes a distinctive marble hall, where concerts, meetings, competitions as well as weddings are held there. 

• The garden includes the "Pegasus Fountain", and around it "Ottavio Mosto" which are group of four statues around the fountain symbolizing four elements: fire, air, earth and water.

• Hedge Theatre is located in the main part of the Mirabell Gardens, and is one of the oldest theatres surrounded by shrubs to the north of the Alps.

• The "Garden of the Dwarves" displays a number of strange-shaped creatures made of white marble taken from the Untersberg Mountain.
