Syntagma Square is one of the top squares in Athens as iti s crowded all the time with locals and tourists. The square has the Greek parliament building and is a hub for many forms of transportation that reach many places in athens. The square is also known as Constitution Square as the first King of Greece was obliged to grant the Constitution to the people after a popular and military uprising on the 3 of september 1843.
Historic overview
syntagma square has the old royal palace, the greek parliament since 1934, a fountain that dates back to the 19 century, surrounded public parks, and Unknown Soldier Memorial to honor the victims of the greek war. The square was designed at the beginning of the 19 century, a while after its construction king otto came to power and moved from Nafplio to Athens in 1843. In late 1843 a Greek uprising broke out headed by Dimitrios Kallergis asking the government to give the people the Constitution. The square has witnessed a similar situation in 2010 and 2012, because of the Greek government debt.
