Stockholm Royal Palace
Overview:
• The Stockholm Royal Palace is considered one of the most prominent tourist places in Sweden and all of Europe, due to its importance and wide fame.
• Located on Stadsholmen Island, it is one of the largest palaces in Europe and is the residence of the Swedish King.
Historic overview:
• The construction of the palace began at the end of the seventeenth century, and it was inaugurated in the middle of the eighteenth century in the city of "Stockholm"; More than 60 years after the start of work on its construction.
• It was built by the famous architect "Tessin".
The fire that occurred in it in May 1697, of the old palace (Tre kronor), was put out, and the fire started in the storage room above the kingdom hall (rikssalen), and the cause of the fire was not clear.
Architectural Description:
• The palace was designed according to the Baroque style, which is a mixture of Roman architecture and European Renaissance architecture.
• This was how one of the foreign envoys to Sweden, Alexandra Kollontai, described her first meeting at the royal palace in Stockholm in her diary in 1930:
«This palace is unlike any of the other palaces in the capitals that I visited as a tourist. Especially since the distribution of the rooms is impressive, the architectural technical dimensions - the length, width and height of the rooms. - The great halls, because of their symmetry, seem not so high as in most palaces, that they are always generally dull.
