Overview:

• The Saadien's Tombs are among the historical monuments and cultural landmarks that characterize the Red City, which is a destination for history and civilization lovers. It is one of the distinctive characteristics that meet in the Red City, which is the city of history and ancient civilization.

• These tombs are also one of the few monuments that still exist from the era of the Saadian Sultanate, who ruled the golden age of the city of Marrakesh, which extended from 1524 to 1659 AD.

• This era is one of the ancient historical eras that were characterized by sophistication, culture and ancient history in Marrakesh, which is located near the Kasbah Mosque in this neighborhood, which still radiates the beauty of ancient Moroccan culture.

Historical overview:

• The first group of funeral chambers was established in 1557 AD during the reign of Sultan “Abdullah Al-Ghalib” and was discovered in 1917 AD. It is a tomb of the Saadian royal family, after the burial of Prince “Mohammed Al-Sheikh”, his son worked to collect the dome known as “Lalla Masouda Dome” where he was also buried there in the year 1574 AD.

• In the year 1591 AD, "Ahmed Al-Mansour" buried his mother there, and the shrine includes 60 tombs of the Saadian dynasty, starting from "Al-Mansour Al-Dhahabi" to his successors and his large family.

• The Saadian tombs have a great historical value, which is a testament to the technical expertise that characterized the Saadian dynasty.

Architectural Description:

• The tomb consists of two groups:

- The first group consists of: three halls, the mihrab hall or prayer hall, and the twelve-column hall, which is more beautiful and more important than the first hall. It is a group of marble columns with arches or ornate wooden domes. This hall contains the tomb of Sultan Ahmed Al-Mansour, which is made of gold, as well as the tomb of his son, with some small tombs behind them. The splendor of Andalusian Islamic art is embodied in this group.

- As for the second group: it is a large hall with an ornate ceiling, and it has two balconies, while outside the mausoleum there is a garden with a group of graves for employees and soldiers.
