Tashkent Zoo
Overview:
Tashkent Zoo was established in 1924 upon the initiative of a group of biologists, on an area of about 3 hectares, to be a small zoo.
The zoo was completed by the year 1940 AD, and it now contains 200 species of animals.
The government of Uzbekistan took a decision to build a new zoo in accordance with modern standards in 1994, and it was reopened in 1997 on an area of 22.7 hectares to become the largest zoo in Central Asia.
It also became a member of the (Eurasian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums).
Scientists in this specialized center study animals and attempt to breed rare and endangered animals, in addition to cloning some rare specimens and carrying out rare mating operations between animals and birds to produce new species, and they have already been able to achieve good results in the reproduction and breeding of raptors such as the Moroccan white-headed phoenix and the condor.
