Kadikoy Neighbourhood

Overview:

• Kadıköy, in ancient Arabic (Khalqedun), is a neighbourhood in Istanbul, located on the northern shore of the Sea of Marmara, facing the historical old center of the city on the European side of the Bosphorus Strait.

• The campus of Marmara University is located in it, which is the second largest university in Turkey.

• The area is commercial, with a clear presence of cinemas, bars and libraries. The area is a cultural center in the eastern Anatolian side of Istanbul. This city is considered as an upscale neighborhood in the Asian side of Istanbul.

• The neighborhood contains historical landmarks that you can visit, such as the historic market, "Fenerbahce" park, in addition to the sea port that contains a group of yachts that make beautiful cruises.

Historic overview:

• In the past, the Kadikoy area in Istanbul was one of the first areas inhabited by man. Despite the strong urban attack of this region, and although there was not much of its past left, it still presents a beautiful picture of the history of Istanbul, where more than half a million people live and there are a large number from schools, universities and English language schools.

• This city is very important for the history of Christianity, as the Council of Chalcedon was convened in it in the year 451 AD, which contributed to the split of the Church and the departure of the Eastern Churches from the Roman and Byzantine Church.

• The Ottomans changed the name of the city to become (Kadi Koy) because it was the village in which the Kadi (Judge) lived in Constantinople, and the word (koy) in Turkish means (village).
