Buyuk Camlica Hill

Overview:

It situated on the Asian part of the city, on one of Istanbul’s hills within the Üsküdar district.

Çamlıca Hill offers a distinguished view of Istanbul’s districts and minarets. It the highest one of the seven hills of Istanbul, it is 267 meters high. 

in Turkish: it is called Çamlıca which means Pine tree. 

Architectural description:

It is divided into two hills:

Büyük Çamlica Tepesi: meaning "Big camlica", it is 267 meters above sea level, offers a complete panorama view of Istanbul’s waterways as Bosphorus bridge on the black sea and Amino peninsula. 

Kücük Çamlica: meaning "Small camlica”, it is 229 meters above sea level, it includes gardens and forests. 

Historical overview:

Ottoman sultans built summer residences and a hunting lodge, it used as a recreational place. During the Ottoman period, Camlica Hill was also used as a training center for hunting especially; hawks.

In 1980, the Turkish government bought the region due to its great importance and as it overlooks the city. 

It is called brides Hill as most of its visitors are lovers and Brides. 

How to Get to Çamlıca Hill:

You can come to Camlica hill by taking a public ferry to Uskudar and from Uskudar pier take bus which drops you right in front of Camlica.

If coming from Taksim, the easiest way to access Çamlıca Hill is taking the bus 129T and get off at the Kısıklı bus stop. After that, be prepared for a 15-20 minute steep walk up the hill.

Another way to get to Çamlıca from Taksim is taking the ferry to Kabatas and then a ferry to Kadiköy. From Kadiköy, you can take any of the following buses: 14, 14F, or 14R and get off at the Kural stop. After a 10 minute walk up the hill, you will be in Çamlıca!

If coming from Üsküdar, you can take any of these buses: 9üd, 11E, 11L, 11K, 11Y, 11A, 11üs, 11M, 11ST, or 320 and get off at the Kısıklı station. Once in Kısıklı, if you don’t want to walk, you can always take a taxi.
