Samarkand
• It is a city in Uzbekistan, with a population of 400,000, and it is the second largest city in Uzbekistan.
• The city of "Samarkand" is located in Central Asia, in the country of Uzbekistan. The meaning of the name is “the castle of the land,” and Ibn Battuta described it by saying: “It is one of the largest, best and most beautiful cities. It was built on the shore of a valley known as the Qassarin Valley, and it contained great palaces and architecture that showed the mettle of its people.
• The Islamic conquest of the city of “Samarkand” was carried out by the Muslim leader “Qutaybah bin Muslim al-Bahli” in the year (87 AH - 705 AD), then he reopened it again in (92 AH - 710 AD).
• After the Islamic conquest, the Muslims converted a number of temples into mosques to perform prayers and teach Islam to the people of the country.
• Samarkand gained independence within the republics of the Commonwealth of Independent States after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
• "Samarkand" was famous for the large number of palaces built by "Timur", including:
